No time for a rambling preamble, let's get to the music:

1) Sting Me - The Black Crowes.
Generally, not a fan of this genre, but I think these guys bring something original and inventive to the table.

2) The Man In Me - Bob Dylan.
AKA "That song from The Big Lebowski where he flies through the air". I can enjoy this song without its association with that excellent film, but I'd be lying if I said that it didn't add a little extra something to the experience.

3) St. James Infirmary Blues - The White Stripes.
I love the White Stripes...they just sound like they're having fun.

4) Slainte - Mutefish.
This is from a CD that Sy and I bought from a band we saw performing on the street in Galway, Ireland. These guys rock!



5) My Name Is Jonas - Weezer.
The foreman has injured his hand!

6) (New Wave) Polly - Nirvana.
I love old school Nirvana. Wish I'd seen them live.

7) Letting You - NIN.
I got this via free download. I like what he's doing lately, but I think Trent Reznor needs to calm down about Radiohead.

8) We Were Born the Mutants Again With Leafling - Of Montreal.
I really don't like these guys, but I really love this song.

9) Nude - Radiohead.
Spooky! See #7 above. I love these guys even more because they totally ignored Miley Cirus.

10) Roar Roar Roar - Bodies of Water.
I just got this a few days ago. Kinda reminds me of the songs from Juno. Pretty good stuff, a little pretentious.

11) I Hate Myself and I Want To Die - Nirvana.
Love it...more old Nirvana. Good one to end on.

Just downloaded this last week. Now I have two songs entitled "Asshole". Sweet!

2)Plateau - Nirvana (Unplugged).
I love the beginning of this song, with all the posers apprehensively clapping because they have no idea hat the song is, but don't want to let anyone know.

3)Symphony No. 5, 1st Mvt. - Beethoven.
I've heard that the letter V in Morse code is "dot dot dot dash" because of the beginning of this song.

4)Sheela Na Gig - PJ Harvey.


5)Your Woman - White Town.
Meh.

6)Where Is My Mind? - Pixies.
Surfer Rosa - now that's an album. In my head right now, I sound like Larry King. Sorry about that.

7)Sister Rosetta - Noisettes.
Free from iTunes. Thanks Steve!

8)Ring Finger - NIN.
I awalys thought this was a strange coda to Pretty Hate Machine. Didn't really fit in with the rest of the album.

9)Verdi Cries - 10,000 Maniacs.
Goddamn but I love this song. In fact, I shall listen to the whole thing right now. Discuss among yourselves.

10) Man-Size - PJ Harvey.
All right - 2 Peej songs in one FRE. I truly am blessed.

11)Fake Empire - The National.

My Three Downloads

Does anyone remember the intro to the TV show "My Three Sons"? It's almost Popeye-esque, with the long arms progressing across the screen from the right and left like sliding doors, closing on the old credits and then re-opening to show the new ones. Well, I don't need to download that song because it's been running through my head for about the past hour and a half, which sucks.

Anyhoo, I recently downloaded 3 songs (I'm actually putting downloading from iTunes on a moratorium until I figure out the deal with the DRM-free music):

1. Huddle Formation - The Go! Team.

Raise your hand if you love jump rope chants as much as I do...now put your hands down, becuase there's no way you possibly could. This English song sounds like it combines one of the few American artforms (others being cartoons, jazz, and knuckleballs) with electronic music to the delight of people like me.

2. We Were Born The Mutants Again With Leafling - Of Montreal.

You know, I really don't care for this band. Not at all. I've tried to enjoy them on an artistic level, on an ironic level, on a campy level, on an indie-snob level, but I just really can't get into them - with the exception of this song...can't get enough of it.

3. I Hate Myself and I Want To Die - Nirvana.

I am a dedicated Nirvanaphile, but I'm also kinda cheap, so I haven't gotten the "With the Lights Out" box set yet. This song, which appeared on the Beavis and Butthead movie soundtrack, of all places, will have to do until I break down and shell out the bucks for the 3 CD set.

Well, that's it. No witty conclusion where I tie the disparate threads of this post together, no feel-good closure or life-affirming lessons - but I will leave you with a video for another Go! Team song (Junior Kickstart) that I hope you'll enjoy, so...Enjoy!
