Democracy? In China? That'll never work...

Damn, never thought I'd see the day. Chinese Democracy will be a reality in just a couple of hours. I, myself, have heard only one track, but if that song is representative of the rest on the album, then I hope the world will join me in giving Axl and the boys a heartfelt, "Over a decade? For that?!?"

This album has been in the works since, like, around 1994 or so, and has faced numerous delays. Here, then, I present a (partial) list of things that took less time (or at least seemed to) than it took for Guns 'n' Roses to release Chinese Democracy:

*Tolstoy writes War and Peace

*Disco born, dies

*Liquor in U.S. outlawed, re-legalized

*WWI and WW2 fought to completion

*Wars waged against Iraq by two different men named George Bush

*Black man elected President of United States

*Triassic Period

And the day was not as dismal as it seemed it might be

I punched up "random" on the old bobPod on the way to work this morning, and was presented with the following playlist:

Sleater-Kinney - "Jumpers"
Pearl Jam - "Life Wasted"
PJ Harvey - "When Under Ether"
Monty Pyton - "Always Look On the Bright Side of Life"

What is my mp3 player trying to say?

Skal!

Even as I'm typing this, I can't believe it. I never, EVER thought this would happen. No, not the election of the best candidate to come along in nigh on a century... I'm talking about actively encouraging people to visit Iceland.

I'm still very worried about the pollution that inevitably accompanies tourism, but Iceland needs money like Sarah Palin needs history, geography, civics, and English lessons. The U.S. dollar goes twice as far now as it did when our family went this summer (damnit!). GO and support this awesome country!

I just ask that everyone picks up their litter. And say "hi" for me.
