FRE –live blogging from the far dispatches of Detroit’s tentacles

Wow…I am so excited to be a part of this historic occasion. Well, at least historic from the perspective of this particular blog. I’m thrilled to tell you that I am writing this post from a car dealership while the fine service technicians, who I am sure are totally not of the mindset that they are going to fleece me, attend to a small issue with my car.

The issue, you ask? Well, that’s a little personal, but I’ll allow it. The issue is that my “service ABS” lights have come on. Which is a tad unusual, as my car doesn’t actually have an anti-lock brake system. Perhaps it has ABS envy?

Ok, the dealership’s customer internet connection has gone down, so I’ve switched everything to a word doc, which I will have to re-enter into Blogger once I get home. They must’ve taken issue with that whole “fleecing” remark I made earlier and cut the Ethernet cables.

Well, they can take my internet access, but they can never take my freedom!

Oh, and my money, too. I’m sure they’re going to take some of that.

1. Bjork – Crying.

I’m sure this is a vision of things to come. Like when I get the bill. Or when the stupid ABS lights come on a week later.

2. Sleater-Kinney – Dig Me Out.

I’m starting to get some looks from the other victim…err, customers from the little chair-dance I’m doing. Sorry, you sad people, I’m not going to let you hear how much this song rocks…which is a lot!

3. Radiohead –Nude.

This song is off of In Rainbows, and is so relaxing I just might fall asleep here in the customer service waiting room. Here’s hoping I don’t drool in my sleep.

4. The Jesus Lizard – Mailman.

One of the creepiest songs I own. Great guitar though.

5. Red Hot Chili Peppers – The Greeting Song.

Man, this takes me back. Reminds me of the time I lost all of my indie cred in the town of Oshkosh, WI. I was looking at a Mother’s Milk CD, and Sy came up and said, loudly, “I thought you said that was a bad CD!” Everyone in the place looked at us as I tried to explain to her that that’s not what I had said. In fact, I had told her that I was pretty sure she would not like it. It was awkward.

6. Bjork – Army of Me.

One more Bjork song and this FRE will be like an army of Bjorks…which would be cool to see. I’ve really got to get my hands on her new CD.

7. Soul Coughing – Pensacola.

This is my favorite song off of El Oso. It’s about buying guns at Wal-Mart to exact some revenge.

8. Pearl Jam – Life Wasted.

Speaking of wasted, that’s what will happen to your money if you buy this CD. Do yourself a favor and just buy the first two tracks on iTunes.

9. Interpol – Evil.

Not a big Interpol fan, but I really dig this song.

10. Noisettes – Sister Rosetta (Capture the Spirit).

This was a free download off of iTunes. It’s better than 98% of the stuff they give away. I’ve actually listened to it more than once!

11. Josh Ritter – To the Dogs or Whoever.

Some Josh Ritter, I just don’t like at all. This is not one of those tracks. This is a catchy, jangling, stomp-your-boots-on-the-worn-wooden-floor good time.

Well, surprise,surprise – the friendly service tech just came and suggested several repairs that the dealership would be more than happy to charge me for. MFer even gave me the friggin’ puppy dog eyes when I refused. I gots to get outta here. Later, haters!
